Learn how to play Pro-Face Off and Battle Mode, including all 8 power-ups, in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. See unlockable guitar costs.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Face Off: Play the song, alternating turns with your opponent. The player with the most points wins, regardless of note streaks or stars. To practice without interference, play solo.
  2. 2
Pro-Face Off: Similar to Face Off, but both players play the same difficulty and all notes.
  3. 3
Battle Mode: This mode introduces 8 power-ups designed to hinder your opponent. To activate a power-up, tilt your guitar upwards, similar to activating Star Power. The first player to have their rock meter deplete completely loses the round. If both players complete the song, a sudden death round occurs.

Battle Mode Power-Ups:

  • Amp Overload: Makes notes on the screen blurry or flash.
  • Broken String: Requires the opponent to repeatedly press a specific fret button.
  • Death Drain: Gradually decreases the opponent's rock meter (Sudden Death).
  • Difficulty Up: Temporarily increases the opponent's difficulty level by one. This cannot be applied if the opponent is on Expert mode.
  • Double Notes: Forces the opponent to play any single note as a two-fret chord.
  • Lefty Flip: Flips the fretboard, reversing the layout for right-handed and left-handed players.
  • Steal Power: Allows you to take an opponent's activated power-up.
  • Whammy Bar: Requires the opponent to use the whammy bar before playing a note.
Tips
  • In Face Off, focus on maximizing your score rather than hitting every note perfectly if you want to win.
  • If you don't have a second Guitar Hero controller, a standard PS2 controller can be used for Face Off modes.
  • Battle Mode still involves playing the regular song alongside the power-up mechanics.
