The "Family" mission is a pivotal point in Ghostwire: Tokyo, delving deep into Akito's personal history and his connection to the unfolding catastrophe. This mission is less about exploration and more about confronting the past, both literally and figuratively. Prepare for emotionally charged revelations, intense combat encounters, and a significant challenge as you face multiple elite Visitors in familiar, yet grotesquely transformed, environments.

Mission Overview & Preparation

Before embarking on "Family," ensure Akito is well-equipped. This mission features some of the most challenging multi-enemy encounters you've faced so far. We recommend the following:

• Spirit Absorption Rate Up: Max out this skill if possible. You'll be performing numerous core extractions, and faster absorption means less vulnerability.
• Ethereal Weaving Upgrades: Prioritize upgrading your Wind Weaving (for crowd control and quick damage) and Water Weaving (for area-of-effect damage against groups). Fire Weaving is excellent for single-target elite Visitors.
• Talisman Stock: Carry a full stock of Stun Talismans and Decoy Talismans. These are invaluable for managing large groups of elite Visitors.
• Healing Items: Stock up on at least 10-15 Katashiro (for quick health recovery) and 5-7 Ramen or Onigiri (for more substantial healing). Consider carrying a few Mochi for emergency full heals.
• Prayer Beads: Equip Prayer Beads that boost Ethereal Weaving power or defense. The Weaving Power Up Prayer Beads are particularly effective here.

Walkthrough: Reclaiming Memories

The mission begins with Akito and KK investigating a lead related to Akito's family. You'll be guided to several key locations that hold personal significance for Akito, each now twisted by Hannya's influence.

1. Akito's Childhood Home: Your first destination is Akito's old house, located in the Shibuya Scramble Crossing district, specifically near the Shibuya Station East Exit Landmark. Upon entering, the environment will shift dramatically, becoming a distorted, memory-laden space.
2. First Encounter - Elite Visitor Gauntlet: Inside the house, you'll be ambushed by a group of Visitors, including two Lamentations and several Paper Dolls.
   • Strategy: Immediately deploy a Stun Talisman to incapacitate the Lamentations. Focus your Fire Weaving on one Lamentation to quickly take it down. Use Water Weaving to clear out the Paper Dolls, then finish off the remaining Lamentation. Keep moving to avoid their ranged attacks.
   • Loot: After clearing the area, search the house thoroughly. You'll find Spirit Energy (Wind, Water, Fire), a few Katashiro, and a Relic (Old Family Photo) which provides lore.
3. The Hospital Visit: Next, you'll be directed to the Shibuya General Hospital, located just north of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. This is where Akito's sister, Mari, was hospitalized. The hospital's interior will be a nightmarish labyrinth, with flickering lights and unsettling sounds.
4. Second Encounter - The Kuchisake-onna & Associates: As you navigate the hospital corridors, you'll enter a large ward where you'll face a formidable combination: one Kuchisake-onna, two Rain Walkers, and several Students of Discipline.
   • Strategy: The Kuchisake-onna is your primary threat. Use a Decoy Talisman to draw her attention away from you, then unleash charged Fire Weaving attacks on her while she's distracted. The Rain Walkers are dangerous due to their ranged attacks; use Wind Weaving to quickly close the distance and extract their cores. Water Weaving is effective against the Students of Discipline. Prioritize taking down the Kuchisake-onna first, then the Rain Walkers, and finally the Students. Don't be afraid to use another Stun Talisman if you get overwhelmed.
   • Healing Tip: If your health drops below 50%, immediately use a Katashiro. If you're severely damaged, find cover and use a Ramen.
5. Mari's Room & Revelation: After the fight, proceed to Mari's hospital room. Here, you'll trigger a significant cutscene revealing more about Akito's past and Mari's connection to Hannya's plans. This is a crucial lore moment.
6. Final Confrontation - Shibuya Underground: The mission culminates in the Shibuya Underground area, accessible via the stairs near the Shibuya Station Hachiko Exit. This area will be transformed into a dark, claustrophobic arena.
7. Third Encounter - The Raging Trio: This is the mission's ultimate test. You'll face one Byakko, one Okina, and one Shikigami simultaneously.
   • Strategy: This fight requires careful positioning and resource management.
     • Byakko: This swift, melee-focused Visitor is your main threat. Use Stun Talismans to briefly incapacitate it, allowing you to land charged Fire Weaving attacks. Keep your distance and dodge its charges.
     • Okina: The Okina is a ranged attacker. While it's dangerous, it's slower. Use Wind Weaving to quickly burst its core when an opening appears.
     • Shikigami: These are annoying but relatively fragile. Use Water Weaving to clear them out quickly when they get too close, as their attacks can interrupt your weaving.
   • Recommended Approach:
     1. Start by throwing a Stun Talisman at the Byakko.
     2. Immediately follow up with a fully charged Fire Weaving attack on the Byakko.
     3. Use Water Weaving to clear any Shikigami that rush you.
     4. Focus on the Okina next, using Wind Weaving to take it down quickly while avoiding the Byakko's attacks.
     5. Once the Okina and Shikigami are dealt with, concentrate all your remaining Fire Weaving and any remaining Stun Talismans on the Byakko. Dodge its attacks and look for opportunities to extract its core.
   • Common Pitfall: Don't try to fight all three head-on. Use the environment for cover, and prioritize targets. Getting caught between the Byakko's charges and the Okina's projectiles is a quick way to fail.

Rewards & Post-Mission

Completing "Family" grants you significant rewards and progresses the main storyline. Expect:

• Experience Points: A substantial amount, often enough for a level up or two.
• Meika: A generous sum for your efforts.
• Spirit Energy: Large quantities of all three types (Wind, Water, Fire).
• New Skill: Often, completing major story missions unlocks new Ethereal Weaving skills or upgrades.
• Lore Progression: Crucial insights into Hannya's motives and Akito's past.

After the mission, take some time to restock your consumables, upgrade your skills, and prepare for the next phase of your journey to save Tokyo.
