First things first, after the intro scenes, head over and chat with the casino owner. He'll hook you up with 10,000 coins to get you started. Don't worry too much if you go broke; you can talk to him again for more coins, but he won't keep giving them to you forever, so use them wisely!

Now, about those Fortune Medals: the game itself gives you instructions for Chronobind and Poker, but trust me, poker is the way to go. Here's the trick: buy in for 1,000 coins and then immediately choose 'All in.' Seriously, just bet everything. Most of the time, the other computer players will fold, and you'll win the pot. Each time you win an 'All in' bet, you get one Fortune Medal. Keep doing this until you've bagged all 30 medals. Once you've got them, head back to the casino owner. He'll reward you by adding Sazh to your monster collection! He's a Synergist, which is super handy.

After you've got Sazh, make your way to the leftmost house in Serendipity. You'll want to talk to Chocolina a few times. She's got a little quest for you – she needs you to find seven missing chocobo chicks. The first one, the 'HAUGHTY' chick, is hanging out near the chocobo races building. Go talk to it, and when you get a Live Trigger choice, pick Square. The chick will then start following you around.
