Unlock and master the powerful Halberd weapon in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Learn its combos, best Battle Arts, and strategies for duels, large armies, and more.

The Halberd is a potent new weapon available after completing any path once, unlockable in New Game Plus. It's considered an 'OP' weapon due to its ease of use, simple setups requiring no farming, and effectiveness in all combat scenarios, including duels, large armies, and challenging opponents like Lu Bu.

While other weapons might excel in specific areas like 1v1 duels or dealing high Fortitude damage, the Halberd offers unparalleled versatility across the board. It is highly recommended to acquire the Rank 8 sword first to unlock the Halberd as soon as possible. If you struggle to defeat Lu Bu at Hulao Gate on Ultimate Difficulty, purchasing the cheapest Halberd will add it to the game's weapon drop pool.

Combos

  1. Defiant Shockstorm (or Block + Strong) to launch: N3 + S spam until finish.
  2. Defiant Shockstorm to launch: N3 + S spam before the jumping last hit, then cancel into Sky Blaze for additional Fortitude damage (approx. ~7 Fortitude).
  3. Launch with Block + Strong (hold): This charge attack is slower but can be used after a parry or counter when low on bravery or unwilling to spend it.
  4. Nx5 then spam Strong: After combo 1, chain into Valiant Steed Blitz (VSB) for 10 Fortitude damage. If VSB is not yet unlocked, Dance of Demons can be used instead.

Most Useful Battle Arts

  • Defiant Shockstorm: Essential combo starter. Purchase in New Game Plus.
  • Sky Blaze: For follow-up Fortitude damage.
  • Dance of Demons and Valiant Steed Blitz: Powerful finishers.
  • Sky Crusher: A good option before unlocking the finishers.

Note on VSB: Valiant Steed Blitz can be unsafe as enemies can dismount you with orange and red attacks. Using the Shadow Runner horse with its dismount-avoidance ability can mitigate this. VSB is also risky near large groups of officers due to taking damage while mounting your horse.

Recommended Final Setup

  • Defiant Storm
  • Sky Blaze
  • Palm Strike/Power Shot
  • Valiant Steed Blitz

Weapon Attributes

  • Dmg to officers + 10%
  • Dmg + 10%, defence – 5%
  • Extend parry window
  • Bravery gain + 10%
  • Boost damage to Wushu when attacking officers by 10% (10% extra Fortitude damage)
  • Battle arts + 10%

Unlocking the Halberd

The Halberd is unlocked after completing any path once and is available in New Game Plus. If you have trouble defeating Lu Bu at Hulao Gate on Ultimate Difficulty, you can buy the cheapest Halberd to add it to the weapon drop pool.

Max Bond Battle Art: Valiant Steed Blitz

To unlock the max bond Battle Art, Valiant Steed Blitz, you need to max Lu Bu's bond. This is achieved by defeating him at Hulao Gate on any difficulty. You can do this during your first playthrough, but it's not required. In your second playthrough, select the Battle at Hulao Gate, defeat Lu Bu, and then proceed to Chapter 3. You can complete Lu Bu's training exercises or pay money to advance his bond at Shui Jing’s house. Ensure his bond is maxed before the end of Chapter 3.

Ranking

Duels: S

The Halberd excels in duels due to its easy and damaging combos, along with strong attacks that can stagger enemies. The Block and Nx5 + Strong spam is particularly effective.

Weapon Damage: S

Combos offer easy air combo setups and powerful Battle Arts. The weapon can stun enemies even after they recover. A minor drawback is its slightly slow speed and bravery cost to initiate combos, limiting VSB spam.

Fortitude Damage: A+, S with Disc of Huanglong

The Halberd provides low bravery cost combos that deal good Fortitude damage, though they cost 2 bravery. Starting combos with Block + Strong is an option but requires charging and has a less effective follow-up. Without launching the enemy, the Nx5 + Strong combo is great for health damage but loses Fortitude damage once the enemy recovers. The Disc of Huanglong significantly boosts Fortitude damage by reducing the bravery cost of Defiant Shockstorm (from 2 to 1) and Sky Blaze (from 3 to 2), allowing for more Battle Art links.

Vs Large Army and Officers: S

The Halberd offers strong escape tools and powerful burst damage through VSB and its Musou rage mode. However, its slow nature means retreating to fight soldiers for energy recharge is necessary if enemies aren't defeated quickly. VSB, while strong, is unsafe and should be used cautiously.
