Hey there! So, you've stumbled upon some curious spots in Sanctuary, huh? Let's break down these weird shrines and fountains you might find scattered around. They can be a bit tricky, but knowing what they do beforehand can save you some trouble, or even give you a nice little boost.

Before you activate a Shrine:

  • Cryptic Shrine: Make sure to lure some enemies nearby before you use this one.
  • Eldritch Shrine: Best to head back to town and stock up on full potions first.
  • Gloomy Shrine: Drop all your weapons before activating this.
  • Imposing Shrine: This one restores your mana to full.
  • Magical Shrine: Yep, this one also restores your mana to full.
  • Mystic Shrine: Unequip all your gold before you hit this.
  • Spiritual Shrine: Empty your inventory completely for this one.
  • Thaumaturgic Shrine: Make sure you've opened all chests and grabbed all the treasures in the current level.

Other Shrine-like Areas:

  1. Goat Shrines: These are found in the middle of the game and give a random shrine effect. You'll only know what it did by reading its quote.
  2. Cauldrons: Similar to Goat Shrines, these also have a random effect, and you'll have to read its quote to figure out what happened.
  3. Blood Fountains: You can press [] on these infinitely to restore one hit point each time.
  4. Fountains of Tears: These will give you +1 to one stat but -1 to another.
  5. Murky Pools: Grants one free Infravision spell.
  6. Purifying Springs: You can press [] on these infinitely to restore one mana each time.

There are a couple of others I vaguely remember. One said, "There's no place like home," and gave a free Town Portal spell, but I can't recall its name. Another was a Supernatural shrine with the quote, "You hear a strange cry from a distance," but its effect is also lost to me. Sorry about that!

Now, besides the shrines, Sanctuary is crawling with all sorts of nasty creatures. Knowing who's who can be helpful, especially if you're trying to track down specific types or just want to see how many unique monsters you've encountered.
