Learn basic strategies for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero including recoil control, hostage rescue, and effective grenade usage.

Recoil & Burst Fire:

Every weapon in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero has recoil, causing your crosshairs (the aiming reticle) to widen after firing. Holding the fire button continuously will increase crosshair spread, reducing accuracy. To maintain maximum accuracy, fire 2 or 3 bullets at a time and then pause before firing again.

Camping:

Camping is a tactic where you stay in one location waiting for enemies. Be aware that your weapon might be visible through walls. Avoid pushing directly into walls, as enemies may spot you. While effective at times, camping is not accepted on all servers. Be mindful of server rules and avoid camping an entire map.

Rescuing Hostages:

Rescuing hostages grants your team more money than simply eliminating enemies, making it a more rewarding objective. However, be aware that hostages will talk when you begin rescuing them, revealing your position to the enemy. Hostages cannot climb ladders. On the map De_Militia, while a sewer system is accessible via ladders, hostages cannot navigate it to reach the rescue point.

Headshots:

A headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill) in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero causes increased damage and can result in a one-hit kill. Always aim near an enemy's head to eliminate them faster, which is particularly effective with sniper rifles. Shotguns are also powerful, even with chest shots. It is highly recommended to purchase Kevlar + Helmet from the Equipment screen, as the helmet can be crucial for survival.

HE Grenades:

These single-use items are effective when used strategically. Observe enemy movement patterns to identify common rush points or gathering areas. HE Grenades are most effective against groups of enemies, especially in confined spaces like tunnels. Saving them for weakened enemies can also be highly effective.

Flashbangs:

Flashbangs can be challenging to use effectively without blinding your own teammates. Be aware of your team's strategy and toss them into tunnels. For Terrorists, flashbangs are very useful, especially when defending a planted bomb alone as time runs out. Blinding rushing enemies can provide precious seconds, particularly if they do not have a defuse kit.

Mix and Match Weapons:

While the Nighthawk is a powerful pistol, it's not always the best choice. For example, pairing it with a pump shotgun limits you to only 16 bullets at a time. A Nighthawk is a great complement to an SMG; if an enemy is behind cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) that an SMG cannot penetrate, the Nighthawk can.

Map Strategies (Single Player):

The following strategies are for the single-player missions in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and are applicable to the Counter Terrorist team on all difficulties. A difficulty-specific guide follows.
