Aecides, Undead Wizard Boss Guide

Learn how to defeat Aecides, the Undead Wizard in blades of fire. Find his location in the Iron Castle and prepare for his two phases.

Aecides Location:

Aecides is an undead wizard terrorizing his domain. To find him, make your way through his domain to the Iron Castle, located far to the northeast of the region. Upon entering the courtyard, a scene will trigger, and you will meet the Queen. Shortly after, you must defeat a weaker version of Aecides in the courtyard. This fight is simple, especially with a ranged piercing weapon like the Long Spear, as Aecides is slow and has low HP in this state. After his defeat, a swarm of flies will disappear toward the south tower. You must reach this tower in time before he regenerates in the courtyard. If successful, another scene will play, and Aran will have Adso bring people to safety. Return to the courtyard to defeat Aecides again. A swarm of flies will then head towards the northeast tower; you must reach it in time to trigger another scene. With his regeneration ability gone, Aecides will retreat to the throne room. The west side of the castle becomes explorable after defeating the Shunned Templar. You will eventually gain access to the Aecides’ Chapel anvil (Map Marker). From there, go north and take the rope down to fight him seriously.

Aecides, Undead Wizard Preparation:

Before the main battle, ensure you have at least one strong Blunt weapon, as this is the most effective damage type against him. Make sure the weapon has plenty of durability and repair it at the anvil if needed. A Polearm with a high Block-rate and extra Stamina is also useful. Take the lift down in the throne room to trigger a scene under the trap door where Aran releases Aecides’ soul, making him vulnerable. Aecides will enter the throne room with backup. This initial battle is simple, similar to the courtyard fights, so try to win without losing too much health.

Aecides, Undead Wizard Phase 1:

In this phase, Aecides is clad in armor, making Blunt damage essential. The objective is not to deplete his health but to buy time for Adso to summon four sets of Runes to seal him. However, you cannot hide, as Aecides’ AoE attacks can hit Adso and delay the Rune summoning. Each time you deplete his health gauge, he will hide behind his shield to recover, allowing Adso to continue. Be aware that he will poke with his spear when you get close.

• Shield Charge: Aecides hides behind his shield and charges. Lock-on and dodge to the side to avoid being knocked over and left open for follow-up attacks.
• Rock Barrage: Aecides stabs his spear into the ground, causing lines of rocks to erupt. He repeats this three times. Dodge sideways to avoid these when he keeps his distance.
• Spear Combo: Aecides performs multiple spear stabs, culminating in a stronger, more damaging attack. Dodge away as soon as possible to avoid getting caught in the combo.
• Drill Attack: Aecides imbues his spear with magic and thrusts forward in a drill-like motion, hitting a large area in a line. This is his deadliest attack, usually following his Spear Combo. Dodging to the side leaves him open.
• Energy Circles: Aecides shoots three large energy circles from his spear tip.
