In the Inn, overhear a conversation about a mage named Brian Castere who recently died. Another patron asks Aren about protecting belongings from thieves, and Aren advises against keeping valuables at home.

Visit Brian's House. Brother Alexi from Burlen Monastery is present, stating he will officiate the funeral tomorrow and is staying at Brian's house until the burial. He mentions Brian died from being thrown from a horse.

Speak with Allie Renne and her Father. They were close friends with Brian and reveal he apprenticed with a Mehrat mage, using magic to aid his business, such as accelerating his wagon's speed.

Talk to the boy in the house. He shares that Brian was a cloth and linen trader. One day, a box fell from Brian's wagon, revealing it was full of weapons. Brian gave the boy a Mehrat knife and made him promise to keep the weapons a secret.

Listen to children playing a counting game with pebbles. They recite a rhyme: "1 is for the Emperor the one the cloak has graced, 2 is for the mages who in battle made the Waste, 3 is for Tririne for they are always near, 4 is for the seasons as they turn throughout the year, 5 is for the years the priests of Kor must train, 6 is for the countries over which our Emperor reigns, 7 is for the books of law that make Antara great, 8 is for the Harvest Days that we all celebrate, 9 is for the pirate clans who sail upon the sea, 10 is for the fingers I couunt on 1, 2, 3."

Go to the Graveyard near town. You'll find Brian's grave has been dug up. William investigates and discovers a map marked with Teal and a location to the south. Head south from the graveyard, find a small mound of dirt, use a shovel, and obtain a red key.

The next day, return to Brian's house after the burial. Brother Alexi is gone. Inside, find a note from "G.F." to Brian. The note states G.F. believes Brian cheated him out of his full share of money from a weapons sale to the Mehrats and that G.F. will visit Brian next week to discuss it.
