Learn how to move your Sims and manage basic gameplay settings like wall controls and time in The Sims 4.

You can choose between two locations for houses in The Sims 4: Willow Creek or Oasis Springs. You can switch between them at any time, and each offers a Starter House. If this is your first time playing, it is suggested to choose the starter house, furnished. You can choose to have the house furnished or not, and you will save some money if you furnish yourself. However, for new players, you will get everything you need to start by getting a furnished home. If this is your first time playing, you will go through the tutorial, but the basics are summarized below. First, just choose your house.

Next, you will learn how to move your Sims:

• Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out.
• Use the right mouse button to change the camera angle without moving it.
• Use the left mouse button to actually move the camera to another location.
• You can set an alternate camera setting in the options menu.

Other basic settings for gameplay include:

• Wall Controls: Click on the walls icon in the upper right corner to disable walls in your home so that you can see the floor plan more easily, or to enable them to see the outside better.
• Focus the Camera: Click on your Sim's icon in the lower left corner (the smaller head icon) to center the camera on them. Right click on this same icon to automatically follow that Sim.
• Time controls: In the bottom center of the screen you can pause time, play at normal, 2X, or 3X speed. This is useful for when your Sims are sleeping or at work, or if you need to stop for a minute to think about your next move.
• Action Queue: In the lower left corner of the screen. Set up multiple things for your Sim to do in order, and click any of the queued items to cancel it. Anything inside the white rectangle is currently happening, while those above it are still waiting to be done.

You are now free to do whatever you want. You can cook a meal, read a book, or take a nap.
