General Combat Tips:

Specific combat steps are not detailed to preserve enjoyment and account for varied enemy AI. Instead, general tips are provided:

1. Avoid a "run-and-gun" approach; stealth or misdirection is usually best due to limited ammo and supplies in this survival game.
2. Assess the environment for resources like cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (an object providing concealment from enemy fire) and long grass. Use bricks and bottles to distract enemies or throw dogs off your scent.
3. Consider avoiding combat, especially with Infected (hostile creatures), as they are not actively seeking you. They can often be dealt with using stealth.
4. Loot everything; you never know what you might need. If you have excess items, craft something to replace them if possible, unless you have a specific use planned.
5. Maintain full health and ensure your weapons are fully loaded. Switch to a weapon and hit R2 (the reload button) when you acquire more ammo.
6. Use the Silencer or Arrows for quiet takedowns that won't alert enemies.
7. Aim for headshots (a shot to the enemy's head), which deal the most damage. Arrows aimed at the head may be retrievable from the body.
8. Upgrade your weapons and skills.
9. Utilize traps and the environment. Place bombs or throw Molotovs (an incendiary weapon) in doorways or corridors to funnel enemies into damaging areas.
10. Turn enemies against each other. If in an area with both Infected and human enemies, make noise near the humans to attract the Infected while you hide. Allow them to fight, then sneak by or eliminate survivors.
