Identify Version Exclusive Pokémon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. Understand which Pokémon require trading to complete your Friend Areas.
Welcome, aspiring Rescue Team Leaders! While Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team offers a vast world of Pokémon to befriend, some Pokémon are exclusive to either Red Rescue Team or its counterpart, Blue Rescue Team. This means that to truly "catch 'em all" and complete your Friend Area collection, you'll need to trade with a player who owns the other version.
This section will detail the Pokémon exclusive to Red Rescue Team and provide actionable steps for recruiting them. We'll also touch upon the Pokémon you'll need to trade for from Blue Rescue Team players.
Exclusive to Red Rescue Team
As a Red Rescue Team player, you have the unique opportunity to recruit certain Pokémon that Blue Rescue Team players cannot find in their dungeons. These Pokémon are often found in specific, later-game dungeons, so be prepared for a challenge!
Mankey & Primeape
- Location: Uproar Forest (Floors 1-9)
- Recruitment Strategy: Mankey is a relatively common encounter in Uproar Forest. Primeape can also be found there, though less frequently. To maximize your chances, ensure your leader Pokémon is at a high level and consider bringing along a Friend Bow. The Friend Bow significantly boosts recruitment rates and can be found in various late-game dungeons or purchased from Kecleon's Shop if you're lucky. Focus on defeating Mankey or Primeape with your leader Pokémon for the best recruitment odds.
- Friend Area: Monkey's Den
Growlithe & Arcanine
- Location: Fiery Field (Floors 1-29)
- Recruitment Strategy: Growlithe is a fiery addition to any team! You'll find them throughout Fiery Field. Arcanine, its evolved form, is much rarer but can also appear. Due to their Fire typing, consider bringing Water-type or Ground-type Pokémon to deal super effective damage, making recruitment easier. Again, a Friend Bow is highly recommended.
- Friend Area: Fire Field
Elekid & Electabuzz
- Location: Lightning Field (Floors 1-29)
- Recruitment Strategy: These Electric-type Pokémon are exclusive to Red Rescue Team. Elekid is common, while Electabuzz is a rarer find in Lightning Field. Ground-type Pokémon are your best bet for weakening them efficiently. Be wary of their Electric-type attacks!
- Friend Area: Lightning Field
Murkrow
- Location: Darknight Relic (Floors 1-15)
- Recruitment Strategy: Murkrow, the Dark/Flying-type Pokémon, can be found in the mysterious Darknight Relic. Its Dark typing makes it immune to Psychic-type attacks, so plan your team accordingly. Fighting-type or Fairy-type (if you have a strong one) moves will be effective.
- Friend Area: Sky's High
Scyther
- Location: Western Cave (Floors 1-99)
- Recruitment Strategy: Scyther is a powerful Bug/Flying-type Pokémon and a challenging recruit. It appears in the incredibly long Western Cave. Due to the dungeon's length, bring plenty of Max Elixirs, Reviver Seeds, and Oran Berries. Ice-type and Rock-type attacks are super effective. A Friend Bow is almost essential for recruiting Scyther, given its low base recruitment rate.
- Friend Area: Beetle Forest
Larvitar & Pupitar & Tyranitar
- Location: Southern Cave (Floors 1-40)
- Recruitment Strategy: This evolutionary line is a fantastic addition to your team. Larvitar and Pupitar are found throughout Southern Cave, with Tyranitar being a very rare encounter on deeper floors. Their Rock/Ground typing makes them vulnerable to Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, and Steel attacks. Be prepared for a long expedition to recruit Tyranitar, and definitely equip that Friend Bow!
- Friend Area: Craggy Area
Pokémon Exclusive to Blue Rescue Team (Trade Required)
To complete your collection, you'll need to trade with a player who owns Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for the following Pokémon. Unfortunately, there's no way to obtain these in Red Rescue Team directly.
- Meowth & Persian
- Psyduck & Golduck
- Bellsprout & Weepinbell & Victreebel
- Magby & Magmar
- Pinsir
- Teddiursa & Ursaring
- Lapras
Trading can be done via the Wonder Mail system. You'll need to receive a Wonder Mail password from a Blue Rescue Team player that contains one of these Pokémon as a reward. Conversely, you can send them a Wonder Mail password for one of your exclusive Pokémon.
