Since there is no traffic, you can use aggressive tactics. Get ahead of opponents at a good speed, then use the Back View button to prevent them from overtaking you. You don't need to worry about crashing into cars when looking behind you (Far Camera mode only).

Alternatively, race in Bumper Cam mode and enable the Rear View Mirror option in the Display Menu (under Options).

The key to winning is to ensure no opponents are ahead of you after getting the head start, as catching up will be very difficult.

Upgrades that increase acceleration might help, but could also backfire due to the AI logic.

If upgrading doesn't work, the downgrade trick from Challenge 86 might be applicable.
