Changes since 2.2

Discover the key changes and updates introduced in Marathon 2.2. This guide helps you navigate the new features and improvements for a smoother gameplay experience.

Hey there! So, you're diving into Marathon and wondering what's new since version 2.2? Let's break it down. This section usually covers the nitty-gritty of updates, but it looks like this particular guide focuses on the overall timeline of the Marathon universe rather than specific game version changes. If you're looking for details on what changed between versions, you might need to check a different resource. This guide here is more about the lore and the grand sweep of events, from ancient history to the far future. We've got everything from the Nakh revolt against the Pfhor way back in c. 3189BCE to the Battle of Marathon in 490BCE. It even touches on events in Pathways Into Darkness and the First and Second Colonial Periods. So, while we won't be covering specific 2.2 changes here, you'll still find a ton of fascinating lore to explore. Happy gaming!

Changes since 2.0/2.1

Explore the rich history of the Marathon universe, from ancient events like the Nakh revolt to the far future. Discover key moments and characters.

Hey there! So, you're diving into the Marathon universe and want to get a handle on its timeline? Awesome! It's a pretty epic story that spans millennia. Let's break it down, starting from the really, really old stuff. ### Ancient History We're talking way back here. There's a mention of an unnamed 'god' crashing into Earth, specifically the Yucatán Peninsula, way back in c. 64E07. Pretty wild to think about! #### c. 3189BCE This is when things get a bit more organized in the lore. You've got the Nakh revolting against the Pfhor. It's a significant event that sets the stage for a lot of what's to come. #### 490BCE This one's a bit of a historical nod. It references the actual Battle of Marathon where the Greeks beat the Persians. It's cool how they weave real-world history into the game's background! This is just the beginning, of course. The timeline goes on to cover the Pathways Into Darkness era, the First and Second Colonial Periods, and even into the far future. We'll get to all that as we go!

Changes since 1.5

Overview of the Marathon Spoiler Guide, covering Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, and Marathon Infinity, including secrets and tips for Marathon 2 demo levels.

The MARATHON SPOILER GUIDE (MSG) is a compilation of collected knowledge for the games 'Marathon', 'Marathon 2: Durandal', and 'Marathon Infinity', all produced by Bungie. Much of the information within this document has been contributed by others, with credit given where appropriate. The primary purpose of the MSG is to reveal secrets, offer hints for completing the game, and guide you to hidden areas. Reading further means you will encounter SPOILERS.

How to use the MSG:

The MSG is divided into three main parts: Marathon, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity. Within each part, information is further organized into sections, one for each level and some general information topics. Each section is clearly marked by a title line followed by an equals sign ('=') and the section name. To locate information on a specific level, search for the level name preceded by an equals sign (e.g., '=Arrival' will find the section for the 'Arrival' level).

To determine the current level name, you can switch to map mode (default key: 'm') and check the top of the map display. You can also access specific levels directly by holding down the 'command' and 'option' keys while pressing 'Begin New Game'. This action opens a dialog box where you can enter the desired level number. This feature works in both Marathon and Marathon 2, though Marathon 2's level numbering starts at 1, unlike Marathon's numbering which begins at 0.
