Forza Horizon 3 introduces Drivatar lineups, allowing players to recruit AI drivers encountered in freeroam. These Drivatars can grant bonus credits and fans upon completing racing events. Additionally, players can form 'Convoys' using these Drivatars. The game also features the Horizon Blueprint, enabling the creation of custom racing and Bucket List events. Players can enhance their gameplay experience by purchasing perks and career bonuses in the Skill Shop using points earned from skill chains. Specific perks include Drone Mode for an alternate viewing perspective and Skill Songs played on radio stations that temporarily boost skill chain multipliers. Horizon Edition cars offer permanent perks, providing skill point multipliers and extra rewards from races.

The game also includes the ForzaVista mode, allowing detailed exploration of vehicles, and the ability to customize horn sounds and license plates. Players can purchase cars from others via the Auction House. The campaign supports four-player co-op sessions, and the Groove Music Radio Station allows for the import of custom soundtracks from Groove Music and OneDrive.
