Gameplay: Forza Horizon 2 is set in Southern France and Northern Italy, featuring a dynamic weather system and Drivatar AI. It emphasizes the integration of single-player and multiplayer aspects, allowing players to encounter Drivatars and switch to online play. Car Meets enable quick races and the exchange of custom designs and tuning setups. The Perk system enhances gameplay, and the Horizon Wheelspin is exclusive to the Xbox One version.

Events: The game includes over 700 events, with barrier-less cross-country races for up to 12 players. "Bucket Lists" offer driving challenges triggered by unique event vehicles placed throughout the game world. New Bucket Lists are released or updated post-launch.

Versions: The Xbox 360 version differs significantly from the Xbox One release due to weaker hardware. It uses the original Forza Horizon engine, resulting in scaled-down graphics, missing dynamic weather, water, and dirt effects, and inaccessible areas. It also has fewer cars (though with 3 exclusives), a different achievement list, and lacks Horizon Wheelspins and DLCs.

Vehicles: Forza Horizon 2 features over 200 cars. A 2015 Porsche Expansion added over 10 Porsche vehicles, a Porsche-themed Bucket List, and achievements.

Downloadable Content: DLC includes four passes, eighteen car packs, three expansions (including the standalone expansion Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious), five bundles, and three promotional packs.
