Learn how to defeat Brauner in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin! This guide covers his attacks, weaknesses, and the best strategies to use Holy Water and the Vampire Killer.

Alright, let's get you ready to take on Brauner! He's a tough one, but with the right approach, you'll send him packing.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Weak Against: Holy
  • SP: 0
  • HP: 6000

Phases:

  1. Brauner's Moves: Brauner has a pretty big set of moves. The one he will use most frequently is 'painting' blood around himself. Sometimes the blood comes down from the ceiling, while it comes from the sides other times. Watch the small portrait behind Brauner, where he draws the path that the blood will follow. No matter where the blood comes from, you can dodge it by jumping and running. You can also make the blood vanish by hitting it with your weapon.
  2. Creature Summons: Then there's his creature summon moves. Sometimes, he will summon grey creatures that will come towards you - one at the floor and one in the ceiling. Since they both move horizontally, you can easily dodge them by jumping between them. Don't jump too high though, as you won't want to touch the creature in the ceiling. Some green, spinning creatures might also appear. Move carefully, so that you don't touch their tentacles, since they can poison you.
  3. Painting Form: If Brauner turns into a painting himself, avoid him if he gets close to you. Brauner still takes damage in this form, if you attack him.

Strategy:

  • If you've mastered Holy Water, use that along with the Vampire Killer.
  • The Vampire Killer is great for removing the blood that Brauner paints all over the room.
  • Don't touch the creatures that appear, as they can curse and poison you.
  • Don't bother with Dual Crush skills either - just concentrate on using Jonathan's Vampire Killer and Holy Water.

After you've beaten Brauner, watch the scene that plays out. Then, head back to the save room that's nearby in the castle. Save your game, and then go back up to where that invisible wall used to be. Head left from there.

Don't worry if you haven't finished The Nest of Evil yet; you can always go back there after you deal with the final boss.

You'll find some stairs here. Above those stairs, you'll find an [MP Max Up] and [$2000]. In the upper right corner, not too far from those two items, there's a wall you can break. Smash it to find a [Foie Gras]. Now, exit to the left of the stairs.

Ignore the boss door for now. Instead, break the ceiling above you and grab the [Robe Decollete]. You'll also find the [Speed Up] spell up there. Once you've got those, you can drop back down and head into the boss gate. Or, if you're feeling cautious, you can always go back and save before opening that gate.
