Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

The adventure begins two years after Nathan Drake's search for the El Dorado treasure. Nate discovers a journal from his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake, containing clues to the legendary golden man, El Dorado. Alongside Victor Sullivan, Nate sets out to find it, eventually discovering an ancient tomb built around the golden statue. After realizing the tomb has been previously raided, they follow the statue's tracks, leading them to a stranded U-boat. Inside, Nate finds Spanish coins and a missing page from the journal, revealing the next location. However, Gabriel Roman captures Sully and takes the map. Roman shoots Sully and attempts to kill Nate, but Nate narrowly escapes as the submarine explodes, encountering Elena Fisher along the way.

Nate and Elena backtrack through the tomb and travel to a Pacific island. After being shot out of the air and separated, Nate battles through the jungle, retrieves the map from their downed aircraft, and heads to a fortress to find Elena. He eventually reunites with Elena, but they are captured by Eddy Raja. Elena heroically frees Nate, leading to a chase where Nate drives a jeep into the water to escape. They reach a drowned city and find a jetski, heading to the harbor. There, Nate finds a journal detailing the cargo of the Spanish ship Esperanza, including the 500-pound golden statue.

Nathan and Elena split up. When Nate reaches the boat, Elena shows him a video of Sullivan boarding a chopper with Gabriel Roman, raising doubts about Sully's loyalty. The boat sails to a monastery, which Nate and Elena pursue. After another jetski ride and encounters with mercenaries, they find and rescue Sullivan in the monastery's library after a large firefight. Sullivan explains that the Drake's Journal protected him and he had been misleading Roman. After solving a puzzle in the library, Nate overhears Raja and Roman discussing their business, with Raja mentioning the island is cursed.

Reaching a secret entrance at the top of the church, Nate finds Roman and his right-hand man Navarro at the monastery, directly above the treasure's location. After solving another puzzle, Nathan enters a treasure vault. In a large chamber, Nate encounters Eddy Raja again. They are attacked by a horde of monstrosities and forced to cooperate. Eddy is dragged away, and Nate barely escapes with Elena into a Nazi Bunker. To power an elevator to reach the treasure, Nate must find a switch in an experimental laboratory filled with monstrosities.

Nathan also finds a video tape and a letter from Francis Drake, revealing that El Dorado is cursed and transforms people into demons. Drake explains he burned the ships to prevent the evil from leaving the island. In the control room, Nate discovers Roman has captured Elena. Navigating through areas with both monstrosities and goons, Nate eventually makes his way out, engaging in a large shootout with Sullivan's assistance, followed by another in the church.

When Nate and Sully finally locate the golden El Dorado statue, Roman is already there. Navarro reveals to Roman that the true treasure is inside the coffin. Upon opening it, Roman is cursed by a mummy's breath.

Nathan Drake is an experienced treasure hunter and deep-sea salvage expert who travels the world in pursuit of legendary sunken wrecks and rumoured lost gold. He operates in the murky world of international fortune seekers, antiquities dealers, and smugglers. Unlike others in his line of work, Nate claims to be driven more by the thrill of the hunt than by treasure itself. Exploration may even run in his blood, as a family legend holds that he is descended from Sir Francis Drake, the 16th-century Vice Admiral of the English navy.

Elena Fisher rose to prominence on a popular reality TV show before landing her dream job hosting an archaeology program on a cable channel. Despite the show's success, its budget is quite small, requiring Elena to produce, present, and operate all her own equipment. Nevertheless, her financiers provided enough funds for an expedition to recover the coffin of Sir Francis Drake, which was buried at sea 400 years prior. This expedition took place two years before the events of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, during the first installment of the game, Drake's Fortune.
