This section will review every type of barrel found in Donkey Kong Bananza. It will also list their uses, how to utilize them, and where you will find some of the more rare barrels.
Regular Barrels
- DK Barrel — A common barrel found in every level. Used to find hidden bonus room entrances, defeat enemies, and most importantly, provides a missing Kong.
- Barrel — Similar to a DK Barrel but breaks when thrown and does not release a Kong.
- Steel Rimmed Barrel — Bound by sturdy rings, this barrel does not break when thrown and rolls until it hits a wall or cliff. It has the same capabilities as a DK Barrel but does not release a Kong.
- Metal Kegs — Beer keg-like barrels that do not break when thrown and bounce off walls. They can be ridden by throwing them at a wall, jumping on, and riding them.
- TNT Barrel — Filled with explosives, these act like normal barrels with a concussive effect and lingering blast. They also have a timed setting, exploding after a few seconds when left alone.
- Star Barrels — Found at midway points, these are destroyed when touched. If you die after touching one, you will restart at the barrel's location. Also referred to as Halfway Barrels.
- Launcher Barrel — Barrels with a white explosion outline that launch the player immediately upon entry, sometimes leading to bonus rooms.
- Cannon Barrel — Floating barrels that spin when jumped into (full rotations, half rotations, or straight movement). Press Y or B to launch yourself from the barrel.
Special Barrels
- Fuel Barrels — Must be collected to keep your platform aloft; failing to do so causes the platform to plummet.
- Stop/Go Barrels — Found in Stop & Go Station, these change the color of lights from green to red, controlling Rockkrocs.
- On/Off Barrels — Found in Loopy Lights, these act as switches to control lights in dark caves, aiding visibility towards the Banana Hoard.
Kong Family Barrels
- Save Barrel — Used by Candy Kong to save your progress. It is advised to use them whenever found.
- Flight Barrel — Used by Funky Kong to fly you to another section of the island free of charge, useful for backtracking to missed bonus rooms.
You should be able to tell these barrels apart, and it will be an integral part of your success against the Kremlings.
